Making the wheels turn
Rotary has supported Bob Montgomery on his Perth to Sydney ride and will be there again for the Darwin to Perth journey.
Bob and Peter Shehadie joined the local Club, Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise in August 2015. They have both been active members since. Here they also met Rotarian Bill Pixton and a strong friendship evolved. On the Perth to Sydney ride Rotary became pivotal to the fundraising, organising and promotion. Bob was able to tap into the Rotary network on his ride from Perth through WA, SA and NSW. There was always a friendly and supportive person to meet and help with the arrangements.
This time of course we are widening the fundraising to include Huntington's Disease, which does not always get the publicity it deserves. Like Bob, who had a family connection with MND, Bill has a personal connection with Huntington's through his family. So the motivation and commitment for both of them is high.
Upper Blue Mountains Rotary will be supporting the entire project and events, and we hope to get Rotary clubs in Darwin, Broome, Carnarvon, Geraldton and Perth involved.
