Blackheath Golf Day April, 2018

Well the sun shined on Blackheath and some 62 golfers turned up for the Bob Montgomery Charity Golf Day.About 62 golfers turned out for the 4ball Ambrose at Blackheath Golf Club. The day started with a breakfast courtesy of Upper Blue Mountains Rotary. Home made frittata, bacon, tea and coffee…pretty tasty really.  We had many new golfers, associated with Iggy Get Out, who made the trip from Sydney. Bob Montgomery briefed the group about the day ahead and introduced Michael Swan Chairman of  Iggy Get Out.  This organisation is at the cutting edge of research into Motor Neurone Disease.  A confronting video reminded us about the serious nature of MND and Huntington’s .  Pro Darrin Waldin briefed the players before they headed off to their allocated tee for a shotgun start. The Gods were smiling as the weather was superb.

We had a hole-in-one competition at the 14th to win a Mazda 2, courtesy of Blue Mountains Mazda.  No one even came close and our “spotter” figured out the safest place to sit was next to the pin!  As usual a million stories of what could have been. There were also nearest the pin, longest drives and putting competitions.

We returned to the Clubhouse mid afternoon for some refreshments and tote up the scores. We had a raft of high quality prizes, eg, Emirates Wolgan Resort, Bonville Golf package, Fishing trip, artwork, fashion items and more. After a few raffles, silent auctions we moved to the presentations to the golfers. The overall winning team was headed up by Chris Baker, with Sam Grey, John Bromhead and Ryan Evans. All Blackheathens and a couple of them work on the greenkeepers staff at Blackheath Golf Club.

Bob and Jenny Montgomery made the presentations for the top 3 places, a Bradman for the highest score and other prizes.   Pauline Keyvar representing Huntington’s NSW & ACT, spoke about the plight of those who suffer from  Huntingtons. She explained how this fundraising helps, where the money goes and the importance of getting the message out into the community. A good day was had by all.

The Fundraising Result

With the revenue from the golf fees, the silent auctions, hole-in-one fees, raffles, etc the total grossed for the day was over $13,000. An outstanding result by any measure and showed the generosity of our supporters. We thank you so much. This is distributed on a 50/50 basis with Iggy Get Out (MND) and Huntingtons NSW & ACT. A great start for the next few months as Bob prepares to complete The Last Leg from Darwin to Port Douglas.
